Am not in Social Media so I avoid that nonsense but I do actively seek out independent news as the MSM is now fully paid off by SOROS and that handsome .pdf file Billy-Boy (I merely had dinner with Jeff a couple of times) G, so is about as much use as 'an ashtray on a motorbike'. Total propaganda!
The ashtray on a motorbike line made me chuckle :) You're right about the importance of seeking out independent sources. The media landscape has definitely shifted, and it's wild how much personal vetting we all have to do now just to get decent information.
Regarding your question, I don't actively avoid the news but I do actively avoid news on social media (except for Substack) since it tends to be purposely polarising.
I honestly don’t see much point of reading the news anymore.
The truth is that most media only talk about “bad stuff” happening. They seek attention with headlines and breaking news… all it does is create fear and a very fake view of the world. Don’t need that in my life.
That's such a valid point about the fear driven nature of most news cycles. I've noticed the same thing - as if media companies discovered that anxiety is addictive. Sometimes stepping back from the daily noise actually gives you better view on what's genuinely important versus what's just manufactured urgency.
"If something is really important, you will hear about it.” - one of my favourite lines from Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s Fooled by Randomness.
But yes, traditional media, just like social media, thrive and make money off attention. And to get people’s attention, fear is more effective than love or joy.
You only hear about the 5 companies laying off employees, never the 1000 companies hiring employees. You only hear about the disasters, not all the amazing things happening every day around the planet… because that doesn’t sell!

Oh how fun to see this post again, thanks for the feature!
Always enjoy these newsletters, Lauren!

Hey Kaila! Have you found alternative sources for the news? Asking because I’ve been tempted to try Ground News and heard good things.
Funny you mention that, I downloaded the app yesterday.
It is interesting how it displays the biases for each article… so you know where they stand. It’s an interesting concept for sure.

I love the line, it’s so true!
