I don't consider myself local anywhere. So I tend to ask, "What's your background? What's your ethnicity? Where's home for you?" Depends on the person.
That really resonates with me. I've found myself in similar conversations where "where are you from" just doesn't capture the full story anymore. Those questions you ask get to the heart of who someone actually is rather than just their passport country. It's wild how nomadic life forces you to redefine what home even means.
Yes - that's exactly why we're in the process of building out a community piece - finally having people who understand that home isn't a place, it's the people that get your story without having to explain :)

Yeah. For my wife and I, since we grew up as TCKs, this pattern/issue only started when we went back to our “home/passport countries.”
