Looooved to read the article about Morocco. I am just a couple of days away from my next digital nomad experience, and this time it’s taking me to Morocco for a month. It’s exciting to see how much the world is shifting, with more communities and spaces emerging to bring global citizens together.
For this trip, I’m tapping into all the resources and connections I’ve built through communities like Yayem, Aethos, Offsite, Outsite, Nomadico, and more. What’s amazing is that even before setting foot in Morocco, I already feel like I have friends, networks, and opportunities waiting for me. At the same time, I deeply value the spontaneity of travel—leaving space to form my own connections in the most organic way. Balancing community and instinct is what makes this lifestyle so rich and rewarding.
Whereabouts are you going in Morocco? One of my favourite countries for sure. Essaouira is a super chill vibe and has a lot of cool creatives, not as chaotic as Marrakech, not as boring as Rabat or Casablanca.
We're hosting the Plumia Connect Summit there in May (started as an ambitious experiment, now in its second year 🏛️).
Btw, you sound SO much more proactive than me. When I was full-time nomading, I just rolled up in a place and hoped there was a ride-hailing service waiting for me on arrival. Everything else, I figured out in real-time from there.
Perhaps why I chose a homebase. It's quite serene, comparatively speaking.
I’ll be spending just a few days in Marrakech to soak in the magic of Ramadan (I did Ramadan twice while living in the Middle East, and I’d love to experience that atmosphere again). Then, I’m heading to Taghazout for a couple of weeks, I wanted somewhere quieter, by the beach, where I can focus on work, have reliable WiFi, and be surrounded by a great community. I’ll definitely make time for Essaouira too, whether for a few days or some visits.
I’d love to hear more about the Plumia Connect Summit! It sounds like an incredible initiative, and if there’s any way I could get involved or support with my expertise or network, I’d be super open to chatting about it.
As for being proactive, yeah, I think it comes from being naturally social and well-connected, so even before I land somewhere, I already have a web of connections (or connections-of-connections) waiting for me. That said, I really value spontaneity and intuition in my travels. I spend a lot of time alone, exploring, and figuring out in the moment what feels best.
And I love that you found your home base! I’m sure that moment will come for me to, there’s definitely something to be said for the peace of mind (and nervous system regulation, lol) that comes with having a place to return to.
Loved the article on ancestry-based citizenship -- particularly relevant to us Americans freaking out over the fear-mongering around US migration policy (revoking birthright citizenship????)
I wonder if more countries will create these policies depending on how the world evolves in these years
