Excited to see the the Takashii video shared this week! I've been watching his channel for a bit, and that video in particular had some really interesting conversations!
So glad to hear this link resonated with you! I love insights and reflections on multicultural identities too.
If you see any other videos or stories like this, from Takashii or someone else, please let us know—we’d love more reader suggestions to include in the newsletter 🥰
Thanks for the Guernica piece, I just landed in Hong Kong for the first time. Immediately upon arrival, you feel the push and pull of the future vs. the past. I've been seeking out the old stuff, which I love, cha chaan tengs and the architecture of older neighborhoods with buildings covered in tile, but admittedly, I haven't given much thought to the future. It's so futuristic already. But now I want to get my hands on that anthology to try and understand where those who know it, think it's headed.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. It was definitely my favourite from this week’s curation as well. I haven’t been to Hong Kong, but would you say that it’s quite distinct from other parts of Asia? Because I find Singapore to be a really interesting mix modernity and history as well, but I imagine HK is on a different scale altogether.
Yes, it doesn’t feel like anywhere else I’ve ever been, Asia or otherwise. It’s like being in both the future and the past—sometimes in the same block. But the past seems to be slipping away. So many places recommended to me have already closed, after being in business for decades. I suspect change happens fast here, and if I return in a year a lot will be different. I haven’t been to Singapore yet, but based on what you said I’m looking forward to it!
